What a nice looking monitor.
What a nice looking monitor.
That was the first impression I got when I unpacked and assembled the Samsung T260. Assembly and attaching to the PC was straight forward. When I first put the monitor on I was surprised at the brightness of the screen and quickly turned it down. After using it for a while I realised that the colour was out a bit, the greys were a bit blue compare to the other monitor that I have attached (Philips 220WS) and the font was a bit blury. Installing the driver from the included CDs fixed the problem with the font, but then I noticed there were 5 vertical "stripes" of about 2cm where the the blacks were an off shade of gray. I assumed this was a problem with the spacing of the back lights of the screen, but after restart my PC this problem and colour "problem" went away.
I played a high pace movie to check for any blurring and was happy that there weren't any noticeable problems, a more crital person could possibly find some motion blur, but they would have to look hard.
The control buttons are nicely hidden on the right rand side of the screen behind the bezel edge. When you press a button the menu comes up with an On Screen Display labeling the buttons so you don't have to look round the side to see where the buttons are and what each of them do.
If I have to find fault with the monitor the two thing that pop up are the lack of VESA mounting bolts at the back, but I have never seen anyone use this for a PC monitor and I doubt I would used it. The other minor drawback is the size of the bevel edge wound the monitor, at almost 3cm if you had to put two of these monitors together there is going to be a large gap between them which is not ideal for multi monitor setups, but nothing you can't get used to.
All in all this is probably the best monitor in this size range that you can buy for the price and you definitely get a lot more than you are paying for.
STRENGTHS:
Amazing Colour,
Nice design,
Value for money
WEAKNESSES:
No VESA mounting
BEST USES:
Works well for movies,
Great for office use (if you make good use of desktop space),
Should be fine for gaming
