Works like a charm and it's cheap
I'm not really a gamer or anything, but I recently bought an HD LCD TV and my recent PC upgrade included a screencard with HDMI output. So I thought, why not connect my PC to my new TV?
Only problem was, I needed a mouse with which to navigate when I want to watch movies or work downstairs on the TV. So a normal wireless mouse would not suffice - I needed bluetooth which wasn't line of sight and which had a longer range.
I shopped around but all the options were rather expensive. I came across this mouse at NIVO and the price was cheaper than some of the usual/normal wireless mouses. Needless to say I bought it and I am very happy with my purchase. Setting it up is a breeze - 100% plug and play in Windows 7.
Now I can boot up my PC upstairs, and work on it downstairs using my bluetooth mouse. No more running upstairs, starting the movie, dragging it onto the screen downstairs and "blindly" trying to maximize the media/VLC player window! GREAT!
The range is good, but because I am pushing the range limit, I did find that it sometimes seemed to lose connection. I bought a 3m USB extension cable so I could have the USB Bluetooth dongle a bit closer and since then, no problems. I am successfully using it with a distance of about 6 to 7 meters away from the dongle.
As for functionality, well - it's a mouse. You can click, double-click, right-click, scroll. What more do you need? It does what it needs to do.
As far as battery life is concerned it's too early for me to comment on that. All I know is it has an on/off button so if you don't leave it on all the time I'm sure the batteries should last quite long. Also, you can switch it off to save batteries without a problem. It reconnects very quickly once you switch it back on again. (2 seconds maybe)
This is a very cheap bluetooth mouse (cheaper than some wired mouses!) and it works great for what I wanted it to do. Now I just need to find a similarly priced BT keyboard. The Windows on-screen keyboard works fine but it's not as quick to type on it as on a conventional keyboard. Now if I can get one of those I can work on my PC from the comfort of my couch in full HD!
Just remember, this mouse does not include a USB bluetooth dongle. If you don't already have one or your PC/Laptop does not have built-in BT, you'll need to purchase it seperately (about R300 extra).
Oh yes - once again NIVO's service was impeccable - thanks you guys.
STRENGTHS:
- True plug and play
- On/off switch to save batteries
- Quickly re-establishes connection if you switch it off and on again.
- Bluetooth, so longer range than other wireless mouses
WEAKNESSES:
None so far
BEST USES:
As a remote when you have your PC connected to your TV in another room with no line of sight and a longish distance.
