Hoya HMC UV(0) Lens Filter
This popular HMC UV(0) filter range features Hoya Multi-Coating.
Key features of HMC filters:
- Minimized Reflections. These filters are renowned for their ability to minimise reflection at the filter surface which reduces flare and ghosting.
- Enhanced Light Transmission. The average light transmission of over 97% gives sharp contrast and well-balanced colour.
- Protection. The multi-coating protects the surface of the filter.
- Hoya HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multi-coated lenses.
This HMC UV(0) filter is a multi-purpose fine-weather filter which absorbs the ultraviolet rays that often make outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct. It will give you sharper and clearer pictures with less haze. Suitable for both colour and black and white photography. The filter also serves as a permanent lens protector.

Good filter for the money
I bought this filter for my Nikon 18-70mm 3.5-4.5 lens. While it was mostly bought to protect the lens it has an obvious advantage in terms of combating flare and glare.
This is a multi coated filter at a very competitive price. If you look at the filter at an angle you will see that the reflections on the filter are dull and it has a green tinge. This is a sure sign of a good multi-coated filter. Multiple coatings yield greater light transmission through the glass, and less glare. This is a good price point for the filter. The previous Hoya filter I am replacing saved my lens when I dropped it on a piece of concrete. The glass of the lens shattered but the ring did not warp and it protected the lens optics. I would not hesitate to recommend this filter to anyone wanting to buy a good quality filter.
STRENGTHS:
Price
Multi-coated
Metal ring is very solid and can take a beating.
Very good flare and glare suppression.
WEAKNESSES:
Not the top of the line Hoya filter ( But there isn't a big difference )
BEST USES:
Lens protector and as a anti glare protection.
